Well written. Do these fantasy worlds provide the certainty people are looking for outside religious dogma? And are rules of fantasy or religion a kind of freedom where perceived certainty from the parameters of these spaces allows for relief and a degree of content, joy, or euphoria from how scary the unknown is?

Damn, that’s such a thoughtful take. I think you nailed it, fantasy and religion both give people a kind of structured escape. They offer emotional guardrails so you can feel something powerful without being swallowed by how uncertain or chaotic life actually is.

It’s kind of wild, people go to Disney or Forest chasing freedom, but it’s a freedom inside the lines. Costumes, rituals, familiar roles. It creates just enough safety for people to finally let go a little. Almost like a sandbox version of liberation. Really appreciate you bringing that lens. I might have to build on this in a follow-up.
